Hiroshi Hayakawa Japanese, b. 1962

Born and raised in Japan, Hiroshi Hayakawa first earned a BA in French Literature from Keio University in Tokyo. After a brief career as a computer systems engineer, he sought a more passionate and creative life. In 1991, he moved to the United States to pursue his artistic dreams. Hiroshi earned a BFA in Photography and Fine Art from Columbus College of Art and Design, followed by an MFA in Photography from the prestigious Cranbrook Academy of Art in Michigan.

 

Today, Hiroshi teaches at the Columbus College of Art and Design and continues to exhibit his art internationally. His work spans various mediums, including drawing, painting, sculpture, photography, and paper crafts. In recent years, Hiroshi has focused on drawing, embracing the beauty of simplicity in material and the infinite complexity of form.

 

In addition to his visual art, Hiroshi is the author of four beloved papercraft books: Kirigami Menagerie (2009), Paper Pups (2011), Paper Birds (2014), Paper Monsters and Curious Creatures (2014).
